TOWN OF OXFORD
APRIL 7, 2020 ELECTION
The Town of Oxford would like to inform its citizens that we are taking all measures to ensure your safety at the upcoming election.
There is no need to vote absentee unless you are going to be out of town, are ill, have been exposed to COVID-19 or are indefinitely confined. I understand that the State is encouraging everyone to vote absentee, but in rural Town of Oxford, we do not have the crowds of voters like they do in larger cities or towns.
We plan to do a thorough cleaning of the town hall before election. We will practice social distancing. Our poll workers will be wiping down door handles as often as we can between voters. We WILL NOT be allowing voters to use their fingers to vote on the touch screen. INSTEAD, we will be giving each voter a pencil which has an eraser on one end to vote with. This pencil will be the voters to keep. We have limited hand sanitizer, which will be kept for the poll workers to use. However, if you feel the need to, you may wash your hands in the restrooms on your way out after voting. I will also have disinfecting air spray that the workers will use from time to time throughout the day.
Our paper supplies are limited. We receive all our ballots and absentee ballot envelopes from Marquette County. They have limited staff to process all the extra requests for these supplies that ALL town clerks need to process the numerous absentee requests we are receiving.
So, in the same concept as hoarding, PLEASE consider a request to vote by absentee carefully before you apply. Together, if we all work together, we will get through this.
On behalf of the town board and myself, we thank you for cooperating at this difficult time.
Mary Walters, Town Clerk
